'tis the season, scroogesSo, this year, I decided to be really ambitious (inspired by this) and make my own Christmas cards! I'm a new wife, why not? But THEN I realized that my printer couldn't print on cardstock. And I'd already ordered my cardstock & envelopes. #woopsie! So instead, I hand-drew 75 cards. Yup. Seventy-five. I did it one Sunday afternoon in front of a fire at my in-laws and it was highly relaxing. Materials.Blank cards & envelopes (get it recycled - save dat earth) Caligraphy pens or black pens of different tip sizes Photos (I used picmonkey to make the collage, cropped it into a 4 x 6 photo, and ordered 80 free prints from shutterfly!) Stamps Return address labels, if you want to pay for the timesaver (I got 20 for free on shutterfly!) Process.First, I taped the photo collage inside of the card using washi tape. (I got some sheets of washi tape on clearance, so I cut them into strips.) After Sam & I typed up our Christmas letter, I cut them at school on the paper cutter and glued them onto the bottom half of the card. Lastly, I hand-drew each card using faber-castel pens. I love these pens because of the different sizes that help create texture.

Today, I placed a banana chip on my tongue
and I tasted the mountains in China I tasted the hour-long bus ride and listening to Vespers and the honking horns when the sheep crowded the road I tasted sweet watermelon and the smell of pine and running down a mountain towards the safety of my brothers laughing at the panic of the coming rain and the deeper panic of my new love close to perceived danger Today, as I savored my banana chip I savored the memory of V's living room where I first learned how to say "how much" or "thank you" I savored the memory of eating naan pizza and hurriedly creating new batches for the group of hungry men coming over I savored the sweet image my God had given me Brothers and sisters, voices raised in their own language, singing and praising Him Today, I ate a banana chip and it was like eating summer's sunshine The 24-hour drive across the country to Montana Jam sessions and no sleep and the tiny town in North Dakota with $.50 coffee Meeting Hayden for the first time and listening to Harry Potter Eating a buffalo burger and climbing 1200 feet and scampering under a waterfall Today, I am thankful for banana chips for the memories and for the sweet crunchy taste I am thankful for my time in China I am thankful for my love I am thankful for summer sun I am thankful for mountains and for adventures I am thankful that sometimes the only reminder my soul needs of goodness is a banana chip my mind keeps floating back
to late april and even may months terrifyingly ecstatic singing in the choral practice room a pope hat on your head trying to murmur lines that still sent a pang of loss warm spring afternoon walks pooh sticks on the bridge, zing of fingers late nights around a small circular table lips a warm red, contradicting cold indifference the rain glancing off blue corduroy eyes enraptured forehead resting on the cold concrete table a black t-shirt that holds fresh tears sitting on the plaid couch listening to the same lines over and over your patience overwhelms me content, elated fear and tears under a crocheted blanket trying to discern, afraid to jump is that what faith is? it's raining again as we drive down 53 a walk down park ave no shoes guy and the girl in the dress the sun was shining that day so when it was may and the airplane took off more than altitude caused my stomach to stir but as we landed, I became grounded the frightening beginning of a new adventure This is where we got to cook dinner every night. Life here is incredible. Oh, Oh hi. I get really excited about s'mores. Then I look like an ad for graham crackers or something. lakepinetreessunsetshorizontaltreessweatshirtsmountainsbeauty My sister really killed it at photography this week. One of my favs of the bunch. Rachel and I at Cobalt lake, right before we laid on a rock in the sun, eavesdropping on 70-year-old women. Let's drive to awaken the dawn.
One of my favorites. Pine trees and wildflowers and sunshine. When I see this, I'll want to go back. Yeah, we watched a Grizzly take a bath and scratch its back on a rock Jungle Book style. #nofear #butkinda Let's go to Grinnell! And take photos of every wildflower on the way practicing with unfocused photos! Whoa, baby there's a moose down there! Saw this guy within the first hour of our hike. That there, is a glacier my friends. Or at least what is left of one. This one here is called Grinnell Glacier. The beauty of the first sight of it actually made me cry. Well, thanks Mr. Big Horned Sheep for being our trail guide and giving me this nice little shot of your rear. We look like the sign, so we must be ready! I just, I just, I just. I just love pine trees like nobody's business. Especially when mountains are involved. Cracker lake, you have my heart. Indian paintbrushes, glaciers, blue blue water, and green grass. Windy bliss. So sometimes we forget to bring cards on our overnight hike and this is how we amuse ourselves. Mornings are my favorite.
My sister and I had the opportunity to FINALLY road trip it out Montana and hike in Glacier. I took a zillion photos and videos, so I will be sharing them with you in four parts! The last will be a film... get pumped. We stopped at Theodore Roosevelt National Park along the way! Here's a picture of us at it below. Some people think we look like twins. Some can't tell we're sisters. We both think the former is a compliment and the latter is pretty much the most confusing thing on earth. Or it may be due to the fact that I'm a giant. Driving on in on some curvy freaking mountain roads. Hey Glacier heyyyy! Rachel took this during our first hike out of Two Medicine. My hair makes my head look like its #onfire. "OOOH! People with tripods!" aaand I throw the car in reverse and hop out into the chilly 6am air, grabbing the sweatshirt that my sister was using as a blanket and leaving her in the car for about 15 minutes. Thank you, Jesus, for golden sunrises, still quiet mornings, and the abilities to capture a bit of your glory.

I'm guessing I'll have it all figured out by the time I turn 30.
